Updates: Antonio Cairoli

Fans were intrigued when the entry list for the first Internazionali d’Italia round was released earlier this week, as Antonio Cairoli was not down to compete in the premier MX1 class. Cairoli has been a staple at the pre-season events for years now but will only compete at the third and final round of the series, Mantova, in two weeks. Red Bull KTM announced the news via the following statement.

“⁣#222 will not take part in the opening round of the 2020 Internazionali d’Italia this weekend at Riola Sardo in Sardinia. The nine-times world champion is instead planning to compete for the first time this year at the third date of the mini-series two weeks later at Mantova. As Jorge Prado continues his recovery the rest of Red Bull KTM will make their first race starts of the season at the Hawkstone Park International in the UK on February 9.”

It is thought that this could be a part of a strategy to peak a little later, which is also something that Jeffrey Herlings told MX Vice he is focusing on this time around. Antonio Cairoli has not been seen on-track since his crash at the Grand Prix of Latvia in June last year.

MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 23 January 2020 – Youthstream is very pleased to announce the brand-new venue of intu Xanadú in Arroyomolinos (Comunidad de Madrid) will host the MXGP of Spain on the 18/19 April 2020!

After a one-year break from the MXGP calendar, the Spanish Grand Prix is back and confirmed as part of the FIM Motocross World Championship for the next three years. In 2020, the MXGP of Spain will head to the hard pack track at intu Xanadú, located just 22km from the centre of Madrid.

This will be the first time that the MXGP will land in Madrid and that has been made possible thanks to the support offered by the Community of Madrid, the Vice Ministry of Sports, the Royal Spanish Motorcycle Federation and the Madrid Motorcycle Federation.

The last time that the FIM Motocross World Championship visited Spain was in 2018, held at the popular training facility for many of the MXGP riders, RedSand where the GP was dominated by Antonio Cairoli in MXGP and the local hero, Jorge Prado, in MX2.

The 2020 Spanish Grand Prix will offer the opportunity for the local fans to celebrate their MX2 World Champion for the very first time as MXGP rookie as it will host the fifth round of the series.

By the time of the Spanish MXGP, Prado is expected to arrive in Madrid fully recovered and highly motivated with the support of his home fans. “In my calendar it is already marked as one of the most important dates of the year,” said the young Spaniard.

Alongside the MX2 and MXGP classes, the EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing and the WMX riders will also be joining the premier categories for the occasion, as fans will be treated to an action-packed weekend.

Press Release.

With a new racing season officially underway, MX Sports Pro Racing has announced that it has renewed its agreement with the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) to provide anti-doping testing and educational support services for the 2020 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing. This summer will mark the seventh season USADA has been affiliated with the world’s most prestigious off-road motorcycle racing series, overseeing the prohibited use of banned substances as it pertains to performance enhancement. The 2020 season begins on Saturday, May 16, with the longest running national in America, the Hangtown Motocross Classic, from Prairie City SVRA in Rancho Cordova, California.

“Since 2014 we have worked in close partnership with USADA to develop a comprehensive and effective anti-doping program that maintains the competitive integrity of the world’s most prestigious motocross championship,” said Roy Janson, MX Sports Pro Racing Competition Director. “Over the past six years, this program has continued to evolve, with advances in technology and awareness of performance-enhancing substances. The new program will establish specific guidelines, regulations, and penalties that are relevant to the sport of motocross.”

Each season, USADA educates members of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship community, in particular team managers and riders, with an open forum that details the latest practices surrounding anti-doping control services. From the latest list of banned substances, to new testing procedures and recommended practices for athletes to protect themselves from potentially consuming a contaminated product, USADA takes a hands-on, full-service approach to its anti-doping program for Pro Motocross.

“We know that anti-doping is as important to our athletes and to the sport of motocross as any other major sport, and we’ve gone to great lengths to provide our riders and teams a program that addresses their needs,” said Davey Coombs, President of MX Sports Pro Racing. “In working with USADA, we have been able to protect the sanctity of the sport, working in the best interest of our competitors, and continue to refine the anti-doping measures to ensure all races are conducted on an even playing field.”

USADA is responsible for the testing and results management process for athletes in the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement, and is equally dedicated to preserving the integrity of sport through research initiatives and educational programs. Information on the World Anti-Doping Agency Code or the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency is available at http://www.usada.org.

Bad news emerged from Europe today. The Hutten Metaal Yamaha outfit had six of their bikes stolen from their workshop in The Netherlands, a crushing blow for any organisation. The workshop is located in Beerzerveld. Details are not overly clear at the moment but it seems as though the team are offering a reward if someone manages to return the six bikes. If you have any information at all that would be useful to the team, contact MX Vice on social media and we will hand you the relevant contact details.

Hutten Metaal are now Yamaha’s official EMX250 team this year and will enter the series with Raivo Dankers, Thibault Benistant and Gianluca Facchetti.

Traffic. We’ve all been there – trapped in gridlock, inching along at a snail’s pace, slowly losing our sanity and wishing we could break free. In “Duct Out,” free-ride motocross riders Tyler Bereman and Robbie Maddison do exactly that – they escape Los Angeles holiday weekend traffic by parking their truck, hopping on their bikes and ripping through the city landscape to make it their personal playground. They pass iconic landmarks, tear through back alleys and crisscross the LA river aqueduct on their mission to navigate the path less travelled and escape the city’s freeway congestion. – Red Bull Motorsports
